Hanford
Expert Panel
The Hanford reservation in central
Washington was the site of plutonium generating nuclear
reactors, now shut down, however there is residual radioactive waste on site. Dr. Bassett was
part of the eight member panel of scientists and engineers providing technical
comment and review on characterization and remediation.
Yucca
Mountain
Geochemical Technologies
Corporation has
been a contract organization providing technical assistance to the Maintenance &
Operation
regarding data quality, geochemistry and modeling as the U.S. DOE prepares for
license application of the site.
Waste
Management
The
Waste Management Conference convenes in Tucson on low-and high- level radioactive waste issues.
Dr. Bassett has been a session organizer and
session chairman, presenting and publishing results of research.
Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal
Dr. Bassett reported on the National Academy of Sciences Committee Report of the
low-level waste site process in the State of New York, reporting on
the process of locating and approving a site.
Apache
Leap Field Research Site
In the mid-1990s,
Dr. Bassett was a principal investigator at this field site investigating flow
and transport in fractured unsaturated tuff; a contracted project providing confirmatory research for Yucca Mountain, funded by the
U.S. Nuclear
Regulatory Commission.
Palo
Duro Basin
Dr. Bassett was
principal investigator for geochemistry and hydrology during the
characterization of this Texas site for a potential location for the National
Nuclear Repository.
